NOTICE OF EARLY SCHOOL CLOSURE ON FRIDAY, MAY 19, 2023
Dear Sabinal ISD families,
This school year is winding down, and we have decided that it is in the best interest of our students and staff to end the year one week early due to increased anxiety as we near the one-year anniversary of the Robb Elementary tragedy. We feel that it is important to give parents, especially those with younger children, as much advance notice to make arrangements for their childrenby making this announcement today.
Our principals will be sending out more details on modifications to the end of the year activities which may need to be rescheduled or canceled completely due to this early school closure. At the secondary campuses, final exams and completion of course credits still must be accomplished so we ask that parents ensure that their student(s) attend school daily. Graduation will not be affected by this early closure and is scheduled on Friday, May 26th beginning at 8:00 PM at Yellowjacket Stadium.
Overall this has been one of the best school years in my 15-year tenure in Sabinal ISD. Our campuses are academically rated very high and all our student programs have excelled. I commend the tireless work of our teachers, sponsors, directors and coaches for a job well done.
Our students and their parents should recognize that Sabinal ISD has been a leader of school safety and security for many years and we will continue with new facility improvements in the coming weeks.
Bullet resistant glass is scheduled for installation and should be finished in early June. A new security fence will begin installation this summer around the elementary campus and will be completed by the start of school in August.
We continue to pray for the students, their families, and the staff in Uvalde CISD as well as all extended families and friends here in Sabinal who are connected to this tragedy. We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to all law enforcement and first responders who have assisted Sabinal ISD in keeping our students and staff safe and secure.
Thank you all and may God give us courage and strength to persevere through these difficult times in our society. Together, we are Sabinal Strong!
Respectfully,
Richard W, Grill
